The Caritas Association for the City of Cologne supports the largest Caritas Special Services for migration and integration nation-wide. In 2000 an anti-discrimination office was integrated as a model project which is active in individual cases of prejudice as well as running prophylactic work with potential victims and sensitisation of accessible groups and institutions. The share of foreign inhabitants in the city of Cologne is 20 % with increasing tendencies. Anti-discrimination work does not have a long tradition in Cologne. Instead, this field is still in the pioneering phase. The standing of this work within the political parties and among the population is rather restrained and for this reason typical for the majority of large German cities.
